REDD+ Governance & Finance Integrity (RGFI) Project

The RGFI project is funded by the Norweigan Government's Agency for Development (NORAD) and covers 3 countries in the Asia Pacific: Vietnam, Indonesia and PNG. Main objectives of RGFI are:

  • Objective 1: Engage concerned citizens and stakeholders in REDD+ policy development, implementation & monitoring and demand public accountability.

  • Objective 2: Provide legal advice and support mechanisms for victims and witnesses of corruption that are related to REDD+.

  • Objective 3: improve and enforce policies and practices to prevent corruption through transparency, accountability and integrity among REDD+ governance and finance institutions, at both a national and international level.

The Climate Finance Integrity Programme (CFIP)

Transparency International’s (TI) multi-country Climate Finance Integrity Programme is dedicated to ensuring that public money for climate change actions - adaptation, mitigation and REDD- is spent effectively, with integrity and free from corruption and fraud.

The RGFI Project comes under the CFIP, with a focus on Vietnam, Indonesia and PNG.

In PNG, forests are important source of income, food and cultural significance to Papua New Guinea. Their degradation affects us all from people to animals and plants alike. It is estimated that the deforestation rate in PNG is over 1% every year and linked to corruption, as well as environmental and human rights issues.

It is therefore important that citizens know of the corruption risks and are empowered to make active choices against it.

What is the TI-PNG RGFI Vision?

We see a PNG where citizens like you are engaged and involved in demanding accountability in REDD+ and forest finance and governance.
